QR Menu Ordering With an AI Waiter: Meet “Surprise Me”

QR menus became common during the pandemic, but most are still just a PDF of the printed card. KiwiTri Tap & Go turns the QR at each table into a real ordering experience — with a friendly AI that helps undecided guests choose.
How Tap & Go works
- Each table has its own QR code, printed from the Tables & QR screen in KiwiTri POS.
- A guest scans it with their phone camera — no app download needed.
- They browse your live menu with photos, prices, veg/non-veg tags and allergens, and add dishes to the order.
- The order lands on your POS floor and kitchen display, tagged with the table name.
Because the menu is live, dishes you mark out of stock disappear immediately, and price changes never need a reprint.
“Surprise me”: an AI that recommends from your menu
Some guests know exactly what they want. Many don't. The ✨ Surprise me button opens a short, friendly chat: the guest can say things like "something spicy for two, under ₹600" or "light vegetarian lunch". KiwiTri's AI reads only your current, in-stock menu and suggests a combination with a short reason for each pick — then the guest adds it to their order with one tap.
The AI never invents dishes, and it respects diet tags, so a vegetarian request only gets vegetarian items. For the restaurant, it works like your best waiter on every table: it upsells naturally, introduces guests to dishes they wouldn't have tried and shortens the time spent staring at the menu.
Why AI recommendations help sales
- Bigger orders. Suggested combos usually include a starter or drink the guest wouldn't have added alone.
- Faster table turns. Undecided groups order sooner.
- Better discovery. New and high-margin dishes get recommended alongside the bestsellers.
- Less pressure on staff. Waiters spend time serving, not reciting the menu.
Designed for the guest's phone
The menu loads fast on mobile data, groups dishes by category, and keeps the order summary pinned at the bottom of the screen. Guests can filter to veg only, search by name and see clear photos. From the same Tap & Go page they can call a waiter, ask for the bill, join your loyalty card or leave a review.
Setting it up
If you already use KiwiTri POS, Tap & Go is ready: add photos to your dishes, open Tables & QR, and print all your table QR codes in one go. Place them on table tents or stickers, and you're live. The AI Surprise me feature uses the same menu, so there's nothing extra to configure.
Tips for a QR menu guests actually use
- Use real photos of your dishes — they sell better than stock images.
- Write one honest line per dish: what it is and how spicy.
- Keep the QR at eye level on the table, with a short line like "Scan to order or let AI surprise you".
- Train staff to mention Surprise me to guests who seem undecided.
