How to Plan a Month of Social Media Content in One Afternoon
"What should we post today?" is the question that kills consistency. The fix is a content calendar — a simple plan that decides what goes out, where and when, before the month begins.
Step 1: Choose 3–4 content pillars
Pillars are the recurring themes your brand talks about. For a skincare clinic they might be: skin tips, treatments explained, real results, and the team. For a furniture store: styling ideas, product spotlights, customer homes and behind the scenes. Every post should fit a pillar.
Step 2: Set a weekly rhythm you can sustain
Give each day a job so planning becomes fill-in-the-blanks. For example:
| Day | Pillar | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Tips | Carousel |
| Wednesday | Behind the scenes | Reel |
| Friday | Proof / reviews | Reel or post |
| Weekend | Offer or community | Story + post |
Step 3: Add the dates that matter
Mark festivals and moments your audience cares about — Pongal, Tamil New Year, Ramadan, Onam, Diwali, Christmas, back-to-school, wedding season and local events. Plan those posts two weeks early so design and shoots aren't rushed.
Step 4: Write the briefs, not just titles
For each slot, write a one-line brief: the hook, the key message and the call to action. "Reel: 3 signs your sofa needs re-upholstery — CTA: WhatsApp for a quote" is far easier to produce than "sofa post".
Step 5: Batch create
Shoot several Reels in one session, design all carousels together and write captions in one sitting. Batching saves hours and keeps the look consistent.
Step 6: Schedule and leave space
Schedule posts ahead of time, but keep one or two open slots each week for trends, news or customer moments you can't predict.
Step 7: Review monthly
At the end of the month, look at which posts got saves, shares and messages. Make more of those next month.
